Lost in a book
Sitting down, Tom started to read his brand new book, Knights vs Wizards. “Getting stuck into book, are you?” asked mum. “Course not! What do you think a book is, some kind of…I dunno…jungle or something?” scoffed Tom.
“No, … no! I don’t mean that! What do children learn these days?!” huffed mum.
As mum left the room, something strange began to happen. The whole room seemed to…swirl! Faster and faster the swirling became, until…BANG! Suddenly, the whole room kind of…exploded. Blinking his eyes, Tom stood up, realising that he wasn’t in his cosy bedroom anymore, he was in a completly different world! Looking around, he noticed that all around him, knights and wizards were battling. ‘Where am I?’ he thought. Gasping in shock, he realised what had happened. He was in his book! ‘I’m lost in my book! This must be what mum means,’ thought Tom. A knight came over and yanked him towards the castle.
“What are you doing here, boy? It’s dangerous here. Knights and Wizards are battling. You should be at home, with your parents.” said the knight gruffly, dumping him on the floor of the castle.
“I…Um…” he began, sitting up.
But the knight was already gone. Looking around the cold, stony castle, he noticed a small note on the floor. It said: HELLO, WHOEVER YOU ARE. YOU ARE IN THIS CASTLE BECAUSE A. YOU ARE A PRISONER WIZARD B. YOU ARE A KNIGHT WHO LIVES IN THIS CASTLE C. YOU’RE TRYING TO BREAK INTO THIIS CASTLE D. YOU HAVE BEEN FOUND ON THE BATTLEFIELDS AND YOU WERE DUMPED HERE. IF YOU WERE FOUND IN THE BATTLEFIELDS, PLEASE PICK A BOOK FROM THE BOOKSHELF. ‘I was found in the battlefields, wasn’t I? So, I need to pick one of the books from the bookshelf’ he thought. Glancing at the bookshelf, he saw How To Be The Best At Lancing, The Best Ways To Defeat Wizards, How Sir Jhon Black Defeated wizards, Evil Magic, The Best Knights in History, The Stupid, Horrible, Ugly Wizard … Knights vs Wizards. ‘Ah!’ he thought. ‘The book I was reading earlier! Knights vs Wizards! Grabbing the book off th shelf, he settled down in the corner of the castle and started to read. After a few seconds, something strange began to happen. The walls, they started swirling up, and a large blue whirling hole appeared beneath his feet, and he started falling down…down…down… Opening his eyes, Tom realised he was back in his cosy bedroom, not in the world of Knights and Wizards anymore.
“Darling!” called mum. “Light off time!”
“Okay, mum!” he murmured back, clicking his light off.
As he began to drift off to sleep, he thought, ‘I truly did get lost in my book’.
